FRIENDS OF FRONTIER ARMY MUSEUM - ESSAY CONTEST The Friends of the Frontier Army Museum at Ft. Leavenworth is inviting all students in grades 9-12 to participate in their essay contest. This contest is offering cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places, in the amounts of $1,000, $500 and $250 respectively. This year's essay topic is: Describe daily life, challenges and hardships on the frontier for western settlers. Submissions should be between 1000-1500 words, double spaced with references. The due date for all submissions is April 2, 2018. Complete instructions are available in guidance. Take advantage of this awesome opportunity and earn cash!

Ft. HAYES STATE UNIVERSITY - NIGHTINGALE EXPERIENCE Attention all freshman, sophomores, and juniors who are interested in a career in nursing. Fort Hays State University is offering "The Nightingale Experience" on July 17 and 18, 2018 at the Fort Hays State University campus. There is a registration fee of $75 which will cover room and board, materials, activities and attendance at HaysMed. Students who are interested should see their guidance counselor. All applications are due no later than April 1, 2018.

AMERICAN LEGION GIRLS STATE American Legion Girls State applications have arrived in guidance. American Legion Girls State will be held this year on the campus of the University of Kansas June 3 - 8, 2018. This is a chance to practice how government works as you experience a week-long government-in-action program. The purpose of Girls State is to instill a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation. Girls must be in the top half of the junior class. Applications are available from Ms. Klima in Guidance and are due back no later than April 6, 2018.

THEATER IN OUR SCHOOLS The month of March is Theater in Our Schools Month. The theater department would like to celebrate Angels Among us- those who make Leavenworth High School and amazing place to be. Please see Mrs. Morgan or any of the Stella officers if you would like to nominate an Angel! Congratulations to this week's Angels Among Us, Mrs Sipp, Miss Morgan, and Mr Marden. Thank you for all you do to make LV High School an amazing place. The last week to nominate Angels will the right after spring break.

PROM Students: The junior senior Prom is quickly approaching. Prom is April 14, 2018. Tickets will be on sale after spring break. Be listening for announcements to come with more details. See Mrs. Langfoss or Mrs. Mueller for more info

SPRING BREAK MAINTENANCE Please do not leave bicycles in the racks over spring break. They will be moved and, bicycles left well be removed.

MANDATORY MODEL UN MEETING There is a MANDATORY Model United Nations meeting on Wednesday March 28. Anyone wishing to go to the JCCC conference must go to the meeting on March 28th, which is the first meeting after spring break, or risk losing their position without refund.

ACT PREP CLASS The ACT Prep class has been rescheduled for Friday, March 30, from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Any student that has paid and cannot attend will be refunded their registration fee; please see the guidance office to cancel your reservation. Space is still available for any student that would like to register. There are 3 spots left at the $20.00 mark. after those 3 spots are filled, the price goes up to $30.00. Please register in the guidance office.

JOB OPPORTUNITY The Leavenworth school district before and after school daycare program is hiring. Help is also needed for the summer camp program. You must be at least 16 years old. Apply online at usd453.org.
