Local Scholarships Attention all seniors: Several local scholarships have arrived in guidance, including but not limited to: Delta Sigma Theta Scholarship, Leavenworth Lions Club Scholarship, Leavenworth Business Women's Scholarship and Easton Bus Scholarship. Please check CareerCruising for the latest updates. These scholarships are for any senior who will attend a 4-yr., 2-yr., or technical program. If you have questions, do not hesitate to ask your counselor!


Essay Contest The Friends of the Frontier Army Museum is hosting its annual 9th through 12th grade essay contest. There will be a cash reward for the top three places: $250 for 3rd place, $500 for 2nd, and $1000 for 1st. The contest will run until April 1st. For more information, please visit www.ffam.us.


Girls State Applications Attention all junior girls: Applications are now available for American Legion Auxiliary Sunflower Girls State. This is an opportunity to witness democracy in action, learn about citizenship, and practice patriotism. Applications are available from Ms. Klima in guidance and are due back by April 1st along with a $50 deposit.


Celtic Tales Leavenworth Theatre proudly presents Celtic Tales, March 22&23, at 7 PM. The comedy celebrates the story telling of the Irish on St. Patrickā€˜s Day!


US Naval Academy Attention Class of 2020: Senator Pat Roberts is now accepting applications for the US Naval Academy, US Air Force Academy, US Military Academy and US Merchant Marine Academy. You must be a junior who is a resident of Kansas in order to apply for a Congressional nomination to the Academy Class of 2024. All personal files must be completed by October 1, 2019. Academy classes begin July 2020.


Lifeguards The City of Leavenworth is hiring lifeguards. Starting pay is $8.25 an hour. They will be offering a lifeguard certification class on April 7, 13, and 14 Sign up at the Riverfront Community Center.


Choir Auditions Love to sing? Come sign up to join one of LHS's award winning competitive choirs-Concert Choir, Power and Life and Acappella Choir. Sign-ups are in the Choir Room 200 today.


Mentor Applications Remember your first day at LHS? Were you nervous about lunch, making friends, and all the uncertainties of high school? Do you like to help others? If so, pick up an application to be a Pioneer Mentor. If you will be a junior or senior next year then this is a great way to give back and help our incoming freshmen! Applications can be picked up in guidance and the main office and are due back by March 26th. Be Pioneer Proud and apply to be a Pioneer Mentor for next school year!


Auto Tech Students now is the time to enroll in next year's Automotive Technology program. Any student wishing to be accepted into the automotive program should see their guidance counselor in order to be considered for acceptance.


Military Officer Want to learn how to become a military officer? Interested in the Army, Navy, Marines, or Air Force? Find out more on Saturday, March 30, from 9-12 pm at KU's Military Science Building. RSVP at afrotc@ku.edu no later than this Friday, March 22.


Theater Did you know just 2 years before the U.S. became its own country, the Continental Congress banned plays in America!?


Book Club Book Club's next meeting will be next week on March 28th in the library after school to discuss the science fiction book Ender's Game. Stop by the library if you need a copy to read prior to next Thursday.


ACT LHS is pleased to offer an ACT Exam preparation course on Wednesday, April 3. The prep class will be held from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM in the LHS library. The prep course is hosted by PowerPrep and will emphasize test-taking strategies and practice opportunities in preparation for the April ACT exams. The first 20 students to register for the course will pay only $10.
